Carnegie Hall Tour FAQs
Monday, June 20 to Thursday, June 23, 2022
LAYO’s performance at Carnegie Hall is on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 and free to the public.
All students in both the Ruth Borun Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra are eligible to participate in the tour.
PLEASE NOTE: Carnegie Hall has committed to having a fully vaccinated building by Fall 2021. This means that all LAYO students who plan to participate in the tour, all parents who will be chaperones, and anyone who plans to attend the concert must be vaccinated.
We are aware that the vaccine is not yet available to children under 12 at this time, but it seems likely that it will be available later this Fall or in early 2022. If your student is under the age of 12 and you want to register them for the tour, please complete and submit the registration form only, and we will reach out to you directly with additional information.
Registration opens August 1, 2021.
To register, we require a $100 non-refundable deposit and completed registration form.

Everyone will need to stay together in the same hotel. The tour company does not segment out hotel costs. In order to participate in the tour, all students/chaperones must stay in the assigned hotel.
Four students will be placed in each room. Rooming assignments will be created by LAYO and provided to the tour company.
LAYO does not have an assistance fund for this trip as money currently being raised will help support the fall and spring sessions for the Orchestras. However, LAYO will be providing fundraising tools that will assist in each family’s efforts to raise funds for this trip. This will include providing materials and assistance to students to create personal fundraising pages that can be emailed to friends, family and colleagues. Previous tour participants have been extremely creative in raising money through hosting student chamber music concerts, garage sales and even busking on the Santa Monica Promenade!
Yes, based on availability. We will notify all parents as soon as the hotel and airfare are secured. It will be up to you to book your flight and hotel accordingly if you are not chaperoning.
Fantastic! We will need several parent chaperones, and the cost for chaperones is the same as the Land Only price. We will be holding informational meetings for potential chaperones once the Fall semester has commenced.
We will make arrangements for your family to meet us when we arrive in Manhattan so the student can join the group or make arrangements for you to pick up your student at the end of the tour before the group departs NYC.
No. The students must remain with the group for the entire trip, for both logistical and liability reasons. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the concerts.
Only students, chaperones, and LAYO staff will be permitted to ride on the buses and participate in the planned tour activities.
Yes, with the exception of percussion instruments and other large instruments including cellos, basses and tubas. Larger instruments will be rented by the tour company and available to students upon arrival at the hotel or rehearsal venue.
The chaperone assigned to your child will have detailed information, provided by you, and will take care of your child accordingly. The tour company will be informed of all special dietary needs.
